PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
